Cuts at Roanoke Times; Charlottesville weekly ends publication

Following the recent purchase of the newspaper by BH Media, The Roanoke Times has announced layoffs. The paper cut 31 positions, mainly in the “digital, technology and production areas,” according to a story today.
“We are saying goodbye to some great people today and we thank them for their service and wish them well in their future endeavors,” said Publisher Terry H. Jamerson.

In Charlottesville, The Hook will end publication and employees will be interviewed for jobs at  C-VILLE Weekly. The move comes following two years of joint ownership. The Hook was founded in 2002 by a former -VILLE editor.
The final issue of The Hook will be published September 26. It is unclear how many jobs will be lost.
