SPJVA’s annual report for 2019-20

This week, we submitted our annual report to SPJ national headquarters.

Our signature program was the George Mason Award reception held on Nov. 10, 2019, in Richmond. At this event, we presented the award to Bill Lohmann, longtime reporter and columnist of the Richmond Times-Dispatch. We also recognized the two college students who won 2019 summer newsroom fellowships from the Virginia SPJ,SDX Educational Foundation.

The SPJ Virginia Pro Chapter has been presenting the George Mason Award almost every year since 1964 to a journalist or friend of journalism of exceptional character and dedication to the craft. This year’s presentation attracted significant press coverage. More than 50 people attended the 2019 reception. The event represented the public debut of our newly relaunched SPJ chapter.
