Beth Macy receives 2021 George Mason Award

The SPJ Virginia Pro Chapter presented the 2021 George Mason Award to Beth Macy, the former Roanoke Times journalist who has written Dopesick and other best-sellers, on April 9 at the O. Winston Link & History Museum of Western Virginia in Roanoke. The ceremony is being held in conjunction with the SPJ Region 2 Spring Conference.

Here are two videos from the event:

In the first video, the award is presented to Macy by Dina Weinstein, president of SPJVA; Robin Reed, an anchor at WDBJ and a professor of professional practice at Virginia Tech; and Jeff South, the chapter’s immediate past president.

In the second video, Macy is interviewed by former Roanoke Times colleague Ralph Berrier Jr.

Thanks to Professor Reed, Radford University Professor Bill Kovarik and their students for producing the videos.
