Volunteer needed to serve as SPJVA treasurer

The SPJ Virginia Pro Chapter is seeking a member to serve as co-treasurer for the year beginning July 1. The volunteer would work with longtime treasurer Brian Eckert (who deserves a break after serving in this role for many years) and then take over as treasurer in 2024-25.

The co-treasurer would receive advice and support from Brian as well as from national SPJ headquarters, which provides training on chapter finance rules for treasurers.

The treasurer is one of the chapter’s four officers and serves on our board of directors. Duties include:

  • Attending all board meetings
  • Preparing financial reports
  • Balancing the checkbook register
  • Creating an annual budget (with help and input from the board)
  • Remitting payments
