Virginia SPJ Pro members yesterday received an e-mail from Brian Eckert, Region 2 Director, in regards donating items for the silent auction at our upcoming regional conference. The auction benefits SPJ’s Legal Defense Fund.
The auction should be a great opportunity to pickup tickets and other fun merchandise. Besides the items Brian mentioned in his e-mail, we also have a couple of books and a Richmond Flying Squirrels poster signed by Nutsy, courtesy of Nancy Beasley.
I have copied Brian’s e-mail below for folks who are not on his mailing list. Any items that you or your organization could donate are greatly appreciated.
“I hope to see each of you for all or part of the Region 2 Conference March 26-27 at the University of Maryland’s new Phillip Merrill College of Journalism in College Park. You can see the outstanding program we’ve lined up for both professionals and students and register online at http://www.spj.org/regionalconf-2.asp.
“Traditionally, Region 2 has held a silent auction at the conference to benefit the SPJ Legal Defense Fund, and I am anxiously seeking donated items from individuals and organizations. We already have received tickets to Washington Nationals (baseball) and University of Richmond Spiders (2010-11 football and basketball) games, but we need many more. Previous years’ popular items include news organizations’ logo jackets, umbrellas, briefcases and such; professional work, such as autographed photos and editorial cartoons; memorabilia; books; white elephant gifts; Virginia travel posters; really, anything!
“If you can donate items to the silent auction, please e-mail me as soon as possible with the following information: donor’s name (individual or organization), address, phone, e-mail, brief description of the item, and minimum bid, if you wish to require one. Items not bid on silently will be auctioned from the podium at lunch. If you will attend the conference, please deliver your auction items to the conference registration table on Saturday morning. If you cannot attend, please ship your items to me at the address below.
“Please support the SPJ Legal Defense Fund by personally donating an item!”
