Attend SPJ Regional Conference on April 8-9 in Roanoke

SPJ’s Region 2 Conference will be held April 8-9 at the Holiday Inn Valley View in Roanoke, Va. People can attend in person or via Zoom, and ticket prices start at just $10. (Here is where to register and buy tickets.)

The conference will start on Friday evening, April 8, with a reception sponsored by the School of Communication at Virginia Tech. Come for the swag, stay for the snacks.

The program on Saturday, April 9, opens at 8 a.m. Sessions will cover using Google tools, starting out as a freelancer, startups in the new media climate, international reporting and more. Students and their faculty advisers won’t want to miss the Mark of Excellence Awards lunch, scheduled to begin at noon. 

On the evening of April 9, the SPJ Virginia Pro Chapter will hold a reception honoring Beth Macy with the 2021 George Mason Award. Macy is the author of the bestselling book “Dopesick,” which was made into a series starring Michael Keaton. The reception will be held at the O. Winston Link & History Museum of Western Virginia, near the conference hotel.
